The case of Constantine Rodionov, a Russian citizen under trial in Georgia for visiting occupied territories, has been concluded. The process planned for April 10 will not start, News Georgia reports.
Rodionov was detained at the Tbilisi International Airport on February 17, 2012. He admitted guilt at the first process and said that he arrived to Georgia to start business. The businessman added that Russia is responsible for his detention for not warning him about Georgia’s ban for visits to Abkhazia.
Spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Lukashevich said on March 27 that the Tbilisi City Court rejected demands of lawyers to release Rodionov on bail and ordered detention for 40 days.
Georgian officials said later that the Russian citizen was then offered a release on bail of $1,200.
Shota Khizanishvili, head of administration of the Interior Ministry, said on March 29 that it is unclear why the story was brought up again, because the businessman was arrested in February and soon released after paying $1,200.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called the Georgian statement false, because Rodionov was, in fact, released on March 28, after a public outcry caused by the case, as stated on April 2, RIA Novosti reports.
