The first group of UN observers who arrived in Syria earlier have proceeded
to their locations, UN Chief Ban Ki-moon said on Monday, RIA-Novosti reports.
An advance team of six non-military monitors arrived in the capital
Damascus on Sunday evening, the BBC reported.
The monitors’ mission is based on the plan to resolve the current political
crisis in Syria, proposed by UN and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan and
approved by the UN Security Council.
The ceasefire that formally came into force on Thursday in Syria is a part
of the international community’s efforts to end a year of civil clashes in
Syria.
