Syrian opposition groups have taken up arms, despite the cease-fire agreement reached on April 12, RIA Novosti reports.
Special envoy of the UN and LAS Kofi Annan’s cease-fire plan is still in force, halting combat between the Free Syrian Army and President Bashar al-Assad’s forces. This should stop violence in the country, allow humanitarian aid to be delivered to the population and start a dialogue between the government and opposition, RIA Novosti reports.
After the adoption of Annan’s plan and resolution 2042 of the UN Security Council, a group of international observers was sent to monitor peace progress.
They have registered over 80 cases of the opposition violating the cease-fire on April 12-14. It is attacking roadblocks and state patrols, organizing blasts of military and civilian vehicles, murders and kidnappings of servicemen and civilians every day.
Such facts were common in Idlib, Homs and Ham. Ten law enforcers have been killed in Homs, Aleppo, Daraa and Damascus. Opposition groups are executing Syrian soldiers. Gangs attempt to infiltrate Syria from Turkey, Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan.
London has reported that about 55 people have been killed, 52 of whom were killed by state forces. The same source says that 20% of all casualties were servicemen.
