Stavropol city manager accused of graft

Igor Bestuzhy, administration chief of Stavropol, is suspected of bribery, Yuga.ru reports.

Bestuzhy used Kozlov, his unofficial acting public assistant, in December 2009 to rent 2500 square meters of land in the South-Western District of Stavropol for 5 years. A bribe worth 2 million was given, because the land was under municipal ownership.

Bestuzhy was involved in another case initiated on February 2, 2012, with a bribe sum of 50 million rubles. The city manager was detained for 2 months. Andrey Jatdoyev is replacing the official. Bestuzhy was moved to the North Ossetian detention center in late February. Spokesman of the Russian Investigative Committee Vladimir Markin said that the suspect admitted guilt.

I. Denisov, his lawyer, said on March 19 that Bestuzhy did not admit guilt.  Bsetuzhy’s detention was prolonged until July 8, 2012.
