Georgia has the highest rate of rejections for visas in European states, Trend reports.
A presentation of a research project on visa issuing and readmission was held at the Tbilisi Mariott Hotel in Tbilisi. A representative of the European Initiative – Liberal Academy Fund presented data, Trend reports.
Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, Director of the fund, said that about 15-17% of Georgian requests for visas are rejected, according to data gathered since March 1, 2011, when Georgia and the EU signed an agreement on facilitation and readmission. The norm is 3%. Russia and Belarus have 1%, Moldova and Ukraine have 3-6% of rejections.
The reason for such high rejection rates is numerous migrants from Georgia, including illegal ones. Georgia was the sixth, in terms of seekers for asylum abroad. It is the 10th today. The problem will be discussed by Georgia and the EU.
