The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg found Russia
guilty in the cases of missing and murdered families in Chechnya. The
Russian authorities will pay 470 000 EURO, RIA Novosti reports.
Khazan Batayev, Zaur Ibragimov, Magomed Temyrkayev, Rizvan Ismailov
and Said-Ali and Kharon Musaev were taken away by masked people with
guns at a house near Batayev in Grozny in September 2000. Their
relatives believe that the masked people were Russian military.
Russian authorities denied the complicity of the Russian military.
Usman Mavliuyev was taken in January 2000 at a control post while
returning home from Grozny with his family. Russian authorities say
that he was kidnapped by unknown people.
The court recognized those people as dead after unacknowledged arrest
by the military, and that the government is responsible for their
deaths.
An Ingush, Said-Magamed Tovsultanov, is missing after being taken away
by masked men with guns in Sleptsovskaya village in June 2004. His
mother believes that Russian people were involved but the ECHR did not
find Russian guilt.
