The heads of EU countries participated in a summit in Brussels and
approved the new sanctions against Iran, France Press reports.
The UN Security Council passed a new resolution on June 9th,
introducing new sanctions against Iran for its refusal to stop uranium
enrichment. This was the fourth resolution of the Security Council due
to Tehran’s refusal to follow international regulations on its nuclear
program, RIA Novosti reports.
The new sanctions were approved by 27 EU countries, they include
freezing oil and gas investments in Iran, forbidding delivery of
sectorial technology and equipment, as well as services. The
resolution forbids food exports to Iran that could be used for
military purposes. The final version of the resolution will be
clarified in July.
The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed regret that the EU did not
follow the Russian call to avoid unilateral sanctions against Iran.
The US and various European countries suspect Iran of developing
nuclear arms. Tehran denies the accusations.
