The Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs of Georgia considered the draft amendments to the Constitution. Tomorrow the question will be raised at the plenary session. According to the original version the EU citizen who was born in Georgia and lived in the country at least ten years has the right to to vote.
New amendments were made at today's meeting of the Judiciary Committee In particular, it says that the EU citizens who were born in Georgia and lived there for at least ten years will have both passive and active suffrage, which means that they will not only have the right to vote but also to stand for election.
It is possible that the bill will include another amendment. In particular, it refers to the article on dual citizenship stating that a person with dual citizenship cannot hold the post of chairman of the parliament, the prime minister and president of Georgia. Presumably, the wording of the article will change and the people with dual citizenship will be granted the full right to participate in political life.
