The sides agreed to have a bilateral meeting at the G20 summit at Los Cabos in Mexico on June 18-19. Putin and Obama discussed nuclear security and problems of Afghanistan, the WTO and economy and agreed to continue improving relations, RIA Novosti reports.
The presidents emphasized interest in further contacts and progress achieved in the last three years, including nuclear security and non-proliferation, Afghanistan, the WTO and development of commercial ties.
The G8 is an international club of heads of the UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, Russia, US, France and Japan. It is also called an unofficial forum of state leaders (including the European Union) to discuss some of the most topical international issued.
The G8 is not an international organization, but it is based on an international treaty. It has no charter or secretariat. Decisions of the G8 are non-obligatory. They are usually declarations of political plans and recommendations for other states to take certain approaches in resolving issues.
