The history faculty of the Lomonosov Moscow State University is hosting an evening entitled "In Russia, part of my soul", dedicated to the birthday of the former president of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev.
The event was organized by the History Faculty of MSU and the center for political science and information relations with the Caucasian countries "North-South", in cooperation with the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress (WAC).
Vestnik Kavkaza is the main media partner of the event.
The event included an expert discussion of issues related to the role of the personality of Heydar Aliyev in the development of modern Azerbaijan. It was attended by supporters of Heydar Aliyev, representatives of the Heydar Aliyev Fund and of the All-Russian Congress and members of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Russia.
Opening the event, the Dean of the History Faculty, Sergey Karpov, noted the great role Heydar Aliyev played in the development of friendly relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, as well as the fate of Moscow State University. "He was an outstanding statesman, not only in Azerbaijan but also in Russia when he was first deputy chairman in the USSR Council of Ministers."
The Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia, Polad Bulbuloglu, noted in his speech that the fact that the event is taking place at MSU is telling. "Many graduates of the History Faculty and other faculties are now working in the presidential administration of Azerbaijan and proud of it," the Ambassador said.
Polad Bulbuloglu thanked the History Faculty of Moscow State University, Sergei Karpov and Alexei Vlasov for organizing the conference and commemorative evening.
The Rector of the Russian State Humanitarian University (RGGU), Yefim Pivovar, stressed the role of Heydar Aliyev in developing friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Russia and in creating a secular state. "In Azerbaijan there are hundreds of schools, kindergartens and universities where teaching is conducted in Russian. In other words, Azerbaijan gives a counter example to something that terrifies many elites in other countries," Pivovar said.
