Kazakhstan is going to set a moratorium on catching sturgeon. This measure was introduced to the government by the Kazakh agriculture ministry more than a month ago, due to a dramatic decrease in the sturgeon population, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the minister, Kazakhstan is negotiating with other states of the Caspian region - Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Iran - to join this initiative. Russia took this step in 2002, but has not yet rooted out poaching.
