CSTO leaders meet in Moscow

Moscow is hosting a meeting of leaders of member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in the Kremlin today. They will mark the 20th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty, signed in Tashkent on May 15, 1992, and the 10th anniversary of the CSTO, RIA Novosti reports.

The session will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Uzbek President Islam Karimov.

It is Putin’s first multilateral international meeting since his inauguration on May 7. The sides will roundup achievements of the organization of the last decade. The CSTO stresses on improvement of collective security, military cooperation and coordination of foreign policy.

The meeting will be concluded with a declaration with a collective evaluation of tendencies of the organization. The document will also mark readiness to continue development of ties.

State leaders are expected to approve the Honorary Symbol of the CSTO as an award for contribution to collective security, international peace and stability and development of cooperation.
