Moscow has held an informal summit of CIS leaders after the CSTO meeting. Yevgeny Minchenko, Director of the International Institute for Political Expertise, told Vestnik Kavkaza that CIS leaders arrived in Moscow to congratulate Putin on becoming the president and was not meant for decision-making.
Russian President Vladimir Putin restated Russia’s priorities. The CIS states are still the key strategic partners of Russia. Putin plans to continue development of economy, humanitarian ties and international cooperation with CIS partners.
The CIS and CSTO meetings were the first major international events after the presidential polls. The Russian president noted the common history of CIS states, the joint victory in the Great Patriotic War.
CIS states have common goals in modernizing economy, preventing new challenges and threats, formation of a just world order. The countries need to do a lot to form common economic and humanitarian space, modernize regional security system, improve international authority of the CIS.
