Russian president announces new government

Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved the new government of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. Most vice premiers have not been changed, but three quarters of the government was dismissed, RIA Novosti reports.

Vladimir Medinsky has become the Minister for Culture. Head of the Moscow Directorate of the Interior Ministry Vladimir Kolokoltsev has replaced Rashid Nurgaliyev as the Interior Minister. Valery Serdyukov remains the Defense Minister.

Igor Shuvalov has become the First Vice Premier, Vladislav Surkov, Dmitry Kozak, Arkady Dvorkovich and Olga Golodets have become deputies.

Alexander Khloponin remains Vice Premier and Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the NCFD.

Anton Siluanov, Acting Finances Minister, will replace Alexey Kudrin as the minister.

Alexander Novak has become the Energy Minister.

Andrey Beolusov has become the Minister for Economic Development.

Maksim Topilin and Veronica Skvortsova, deputies of former Minister for Healthcare and Social Development, have become the Ministers for Labour and Social Protection and Healthcare respectively.

Maxim Sokolov has become the Transport Minister.

Vitaly Mutko remains the Minister for Sports and Tourism.

Nikolai Fedorov, former head of Chuvashia and author of the electoral program of the All-Russian People’s Front, has become the Minister for Agriculture.

Nikolai Nikiforov will raplce Igor Shyogolev as the Minister for Communications.

Oleg Govorun, Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the Central Federal District, has become the Minister for Regional Development.

Victor Ishayev, Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the Far East Federal District, has become the Minister for Development of the Far East.

Denis Manturov has become the Minister for Industry and Trade.

Sergey Donskoy has become the Minister for Natural Resources and Ecology.

Dmitry Livanov, head of the Moscow Institute for Steal and Alloys, Deputy Minister of Andrey Fursenko, has become the Minister for Education and Science.

Alexander Konovalov remains the Minister for Justice, Sergey Lavrov the Foreign Minister.

Vladimir Puchkov will replace Sergey Shoygu as the Minister for Emergencies.

Mikhail Abyzov has become the Minister for Links with “Open Government”.
