A delegation of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has arrived in Israel and agreed to sign an extradition deal with Israel.
Spokesman of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office Saak Karapetyan said that Israel is considering extraditing over 50 citizens to Russia for various crimes. They include the former co-owner of the Yukos petroleum company, Leonid Nevzlin. Russia wants to sentence him to a life-term in prison. Karapetyan stressd that Israel agreed to sign the document only if all the extradited criminals sentenced in Russia will stay at Israeli jails.
Israel has given approval of extradition of people committing grave crimes before. But it was more of an exception.
