The police continue searches for three missing troops of the Sary Bokter border post in the Alakolsky District of the Alma Ata Region of Kazakhstan after finding 8-15 bodies of dead soldiers. Deputy Director of the Kazakh Border Service of the Committee for National Security Turganbek Stambekov said that 13 burnt bodies were found. One of them was a local forester. Other sources say the forester was found in his house, murdered 2 days earlier, News Kazakhstan reports.
Russian political analyst Alexander Sobyanin has commented on the incident at the border post. He reminded that the civil war in Tajikistan resulted in more people killed than during the wars in Sumgayit, Baku, Karabakh, Abkhazia and South Ossetia put together. But on the other hand, there are almost half as many weapons in Central Asia and 150-200 times less per person.
Secondly, Uygur and Dungan separatists in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan became more active.
In this case, the best version to explain the incident in Kazakhstan would be to blame smugglers or local Islamists. Other versions, such as professional troops such as in Libya or Syria would be a worse case.
The expert denied involvement of Russia in the tragedy. He noted that some believed in Russia’s involvement in the Janaozen disorders. Sobyanin said that he had worked in Kazakhstan for 13 years and would never believe in Nursultan Nazarbayev slaughtering own population. Moreover, there are no reasons for Russia to slaughter a garrison of 15 troops of its military ally. Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia are the only military allies of Russia.
Sobyanin believes that the situation in Central Asia will aggravate much faster than the governments expect. This includes Central Kazakhstan, Jezkazgen, Southern Kazakhstan, Shymkent and other cities. Law enforcers of Russia and Belarus should assist in security maintenance under Kazakh command on the Kazakh-Kyrgyz and Kazakh-Uzbek borders. The borders must be as secure as the borders with Finland, China and Mongolia.
Belarus is notable for guerilla warfare. Presence of its troops would exclude interpretation of “Russian imperialism” or such policy. Belarus has never been accused of aggression towards people or other nations in the last 22 years, ever since the USSR collapsed.
