7 people suspected of counterfeiting have been detained in Moscow, RIA Novosti reports.
The group included natives of Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Armenia and Dagestan. They were selling counterfeit cash in the southern regions of Russia.
The police and officers of the FSB in Rostov Region were collecting information about the counterfeiters for a year. They had about 200 sales of false cash. Their counterfeit 1000-ruble banknotes were found in the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories and Volgograd Region. They were sold for 25% of their nominal.
One of the suspects was caught selling 375,000 counterfeit rubles. The police searched through his apartment and found printing equipment and materials and over 2.5 million rubles of counterfeit money.
The suspects may be sentenced to up to 8 years of prison.
