The Georgian Electoral Code sets new criteria for selection of international observers, Trend reports.
According to amendments planned for the code, a state willing to send observers should respect Georgian legislature, sovereignty, international law. The state needs to avoid interference in the electoral process and organize independent missions with clear sources of financing.
Pavle Kublashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Legal Issues, said that they set the minimal criteria for suiting any state. Russia would want to send its observers to spoil the situation, he goes on.
The Electoral Code will see new technical adjustments. An international organization may send only two observers per polling station.
The parliament will consider the amendments in the second reading next week.
