When the US and NATO forces leave Afghanistan in 2014, American
military equipment might stay in Central Asia, Kommersant reports
referring to sources close to military circles in Central
Asia.
According to the newspapers, the Pentagon is considering giving the
military equipment used by the International Security Assistance Force in
Afghanistan to Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Some of it will
be given for free and the rest for temporary keeping.
In addition, the Pentagon is ready to give medical and IT devices, fire
extinguishers, etc.
The Kyrgyz Ministry of Defense confirmed that negotiations with
the US had taken place. However, according to sources in Afghanistan, Kabul wants
to convince the US to leave as much equipment in the country as possible. The
agreements with the neighbors of Afghanistan may give the US better
conditions for cargo transit and military bases in the region,
the newspaper says.
