Muftis of Russia protest against declaring 65 Muslim books extremist

The Council of Muftis of Russia protested against the decision on inclusion of 65 Islamic books in the extremist list adopted by the judge in Orenburg, reports Gazeta.ru.

"The impugned decision was taken on March 21, 2012, but it became known only now after a series of searches and seizures of this literature from the Muslims by law enforcement agencies involved in countering extremism," the statement said the Council of Muftis.

A copy of the decision, which came into force in April 2012, was presented to the publishers at the Kazan Islamic  Fair.

The Council of Muftis said that the prohibition of religious literature is perceived as an attempt to revive the "total ideological control".
