Russia improves ties with G20 states

Russian President Vladimir Putin has met G20 leaders at the summit in Mexico’s Los Cabos after talks with US President Barack Obama. The Russian leader met British Prime Minister David Cameron, noting bilateral economic progress. Cameron praised positive developments in relations with Russia.

Putin met Brazilian President Dilma Rouseff. He pointed out cooperation in agriculture and advanced technologies. Rouseff reminded that Russia and Brazil formed good ties during the presidency of Lula da Silva, RIA Novosti reports.

The Russian president emphasized at a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that there were no problems between their states. Erdogan proposed a meeting in St. Petersburg to discuss bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

Russia attended a G20 session for IMF reserves. Russian coordinator Stanislav Voskresensky said that Russia, India and Brazil offer $10 billion each, China offers $43 billion, South Africa $2 billion for the fund.

Putin noted that the summit is held in the light of unclear prospects. The situation in some EU states is complicated. States need to find balance between fiscal consolidation, budget discipline, employment, economic growth, solution of social problems and maintenance of pension systems.

The Russian president recommended more intense turnover of securities, use of Basel 3 regulation, formation of reserve currencies and expansion of their use in global trade and investments. He warned G20 states against masking protection measures under ecological or technical limitations.
