The European Political Center has held a conference attended by South Caucasus states within the framework of the Eastern Partnership program and integration of Euro-Atlantic space, Trend cites Asim Mollazade, a member of the Azerbaijani parliamentary committee for foreign affairs and interparliamentary links, as saying.
Mollazade said that unresolved conflicts are the main obstacle for South Caucasus states to join the Euro-Atlantic space. NATO and Europe need to assist in settling the conflicts.
The Azerbaijani representative said that NATO is not ready for enlargement at the moment, since Ukraine and Georgia have not obtained membership in the alliance yet. It is currently busy with Russia.
Deputy Secretary General of NATO Alexander Vershbow, former US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza, regional head of the European Commission John Kjaer and other officials attended the meeting. Former Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan was to attend the talks, but he cannot visit foreign states due to an initiated criminal case.
