The catch quota for Azerbaijani fishing in the Caspian has been
reduced by 7%, compared with 2008 (in 2009 the issue was not raised)
making 6.7%. The decision was made at the session of the Commission on
Bioresources of the Caspian Sea in the Iranian capital Tehran, a
communique from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural
Resources says, Trend reports.
Another session will be held in December to determine the quota.
Azerbaijan proposed stopping industrial fishing and to use the
resources only for fish-breeding and scientific research.
The session also discussed the initiative of Kazakhstan to stop
fishing sturgeons. Iran proposed developing legal mechanisms on the
issue. Russia proposed using sturgeons for only fish-breeding and
scientific research.
