Russian experts and culture activists sent a letter to president, government and parliament requesting the juvenile justice system to be banned, Izvestia reports.
Russia is currently forming a specialized system for protection of under-aged children. About 10 courts were established to specialize in cases of under-aged people. Some say that the system will result in more parents being deprived of children.
A writer and historian Igor Volgin said that the main problem of the system is that it is alien to Russian cultural and historic traditions.
Irina Medvedev, Director of the Institute for Demographic Security, Vice President and co-founder of the Interregional Fund for Socio-Psychological Aid for the Family and Child, said that normal families will be the primary target to suffer from the law.
Georgy Grechko, Hero of the USSR and Soviet astronaut, believes that it will affect upbringing and education of children and cause repercussions for development of the country.
43 people, including film director Vladimir Bortko, cartoonist Yuri Norstein, writer Igor Volgin, journalist Vitaly Tretyakov, actor Nikolai Burlyaev and many others, signed the letter.
