An opposition leader of the Free Syrian Army, Saleh Subaai, was killed at Trems in Syria, UN observers say. 27 locals say that Trems was attacked at 5 am on July 12. The attack started with an artillery strike, followed by a ground operation. Searches were organized at houses of local inhabitants, RIA Novosti reports.
Some people were found dead after the operation. Observers say that the operation resulted in civilian deaths. A doctor and his children were killed from a mortar.
Syrian opposition attacked outskirts of Damascus in response.
Spokesman of the Syrian Foreign Ministry Jihad Maqdissi denied use of heavy weapons during the attack on Trems.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and special envoy of the UN and LAS Kofi Annan will meet in Moscow today. They will discuss extension of the UN monitoring mission that expires on July 21.
The International Red Cross Movement said on July 15 that the events in Syria are an internal conflict, a term meaning civil war. It means that people responsible for murders, violence and tortures could be sentenced for violation of humanitarian rights.
