Turkish PM justifies operations against Kurdish militants in Syria

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara has the right for persecution of members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Syria, RIA Novosti reports.

The Turkish conflict with the Kurdistan Workers' Party has been ongoing for over 25 years. The PKK demands independence. The conflict has resulted in deaths of over 45,000 people. The UN and the European Union recognize the PKK as a terrorist organization.

The forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad concentrate in Damascus and Latakia. They passed five provinces to Kurds in the north. Turkey says that it has the right to enter those provinces to attack the Kurds.

Erdogan added that Ankara will reconsider agreements with Syria, as response to Syria’s shooting down a Turkish jet on June 22.
