Georgia to hold parliamentary polls on October 1

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has set parliamentary polls for October 1, 2012, his press speaker Manana Mandzhgaladze said. The president invited foreign observers to monitor the polls, formed a commission to check lists of voters, a commission for elections at the Council for National Security, News Georgia reports.

32 subjects have filed applications to the Central Electoral Commission. Application reception started on January 1. Georgian Dream of Bidzina Ivanishvili, National Democratic Party, Conservative Monarchic Party, New Right, Merab Kostaava Society, Free Georgia, Industry Will Save Georgia, Conservative Party have filed applications.

Secretary General of the Single National Movement Mikhail Machavariani urged opponents to follow the rules and avoid violations. He added that Georgian Dream has not signed the special code of behavior for the elections.
