The National Congress of Libya will take control over the country from the National Transitional Council, elected at the first parliamentary polls in July in 60 years, RIA Novosti reports.
The congress will form the Cabinet and pass the bill on elections for the committee to compose a new Constitution. The congress will meet on Wednesday.
The National Transitional Council was formed after the start of war with Muammar Gaddafi in February 2011.
120 out of 200 members of the National Congress were elected via direct vote, the rest by party lists. The National Forces Alliance got 39 out of 80 mandates, the Justice and Construction Party (part of the Muslim Brotherhood) got 17 mandates.
Mass protests in Libya started in mid-February 2011. Supported by NATO, protesters formed by the National Transitional Council in Benghazi. Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi was killed in Sirt on October 20. Gaddafi’s forces killed thousands of rebels.
