Russian officials may get compulsory studies of international relations

Russian may adopt compulsory studies of international relations for functionaries responsible for ethnic policy. Vladimir Zorin, an expert of the working group for development of national policy and Deputy Director of the Institute for Ethnology and Anthropology, said that local administrations will be the primary target of the initiative, Izvestia reports.

Alexander Sokolov, head of the Multinational Russia Club, notes that Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Alexander Tkachyov should be the first person to have such studies, because he “set the Kuban Cossacks up and demonstrated poor ethnographic knowledge of the region’s history”.

Experts recommend history, ethnic geography and cultural peculiarities as compulsory subjects for functionaries. Studies should be organized at universities. The Academy of State Service of the president and the Russian Economic Academy named after Plekhanov will be suitable to host such studies.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that the system for control over migration processes needs major adjustments to form a civilized and balanced labour market.

He also noted that the concept for migration policy until 2025 discussed by the Security Council in April 2012 was approved by the president.

Lieutenant General of the Interior Ministry Vladimir Vinevsky, Deputy Interior Minister Sergey Gerasimov and police officials attended a meeting of the Main Directorate of the Russian Interior Ministry in the Krasnodar Territory on August 2. Governor of the region Alexander Tkachyov urged them to “push out” peoples of the North Caucasus from the region. Tkachyov’s words may provoke a same response against the Russian population.
