Turkey has conducted an investigation and found no evidence that the
reconnaissance aircraft that crashed on June 22 had been shot down by
the air defense of Syria, News Azerbaijan reports, referring to the
Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.
After departing on June 22 from the Erhach air base in the south-eastern province of Malaga, the Turkish Air Force RF-4E reconnaissance aircraft disappeared from radar screens above the Mediterranean Sea, south-east of the border with Syria. Syria initially said it hit the Turkish aircraft over its territorial waters after it invaded its airspace. The Turkish side, in turn, insisted that the plane was
shot down in international airspace, and its fragments fell into the
territorial waters of Syria.
