The earthquake that happened in the Eastern Azerbaijan Province of Iran last week caused an economic damage of about $400 million, Interfax reports.
The sum is preliminary and may increase after further calculations.
306 people died and over 3,000 people were injured in the earthquake on Sunday. Minister for Healthcare and Medical Education Marzie Vahid Dastjerli said that most people of the dead were women and children. Some 1,000 people were hospitalized.
Presidents Vladimir Putin (Russia), Ilham Aliyev (Azerbaijan), Serzh Sargsyan (Armenia) expressed condolences to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Azerbaijan sent 25 vehicles with humanitarian aid to Iran. They include 3,000 blankets, 1,000 sleeping sets, 460 tents and food.
Japanese Ambassador Kinichi Komano offered aid at a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Ahundzade. Singapore, Taiwan, Germany, Turkey, Russia, UNICEF offered aid.
The earthquake in Iran was registered with a magnitude of 6.4 points 60 km north-east of Tabriz at a depth of 9.9 km at 4.53 pm. Another quake followed 11 minutes later with a magnitude of 6.3. Ahar, Varazkan and Hariz suffered the most.
Iran experienced 20 powerful earthquakes in the 20th century, resulting in over 170,000 people dead. An earthquake in Bam with a magnitude of 6.6 points killed over 30,000 people in December 2003.
