Saudi Arabian king proposes center for dialogue of Muslims

Saudi Arabian King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al Saud proposed formation of a center for dialogue of Muslims headquartered in Riyadh to overcome differences. The idea was announced at a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Mecca, attended by 56 states on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reports.

Foreign ministers of OIC states met in Jidda and decided to freeze Syria’s membership in the organization. Iran spoke out against the initiative.

Syria’s membership in the Arab League (LAS) was frozen in November. Neither officials of Damascus, not opposition have been invited for talks in Jidda and Mecca.

Mecca will host talks about Muslims population in Myanmar and the situation in Palestine.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, King of Jordan Abdullah II, Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari are attending the summit.

OIC was founded in 1969 for Islamic solidarity in the social, economic and political spheres. It has 57 members. Russia is an observer.
