On Monday, Georgian former President Eduard Shevardnadze urged the government to start talks with Russia to save Georgian villages of South Ossetia from destruction, Vzglyad reports.
The ex-president believes that the villages should even be saved at the cost of President Mikheil Saakashvili’s resignation.
Abandoned Georgian houses in Tskhinvali were ordered to be knocked down by South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov. The buildings were left after the war in 2008. The land will be used for industry and agriculture.
