A delegation from Turkmenistan will travel to Yerevan on September 5 to attend the fourth meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Armenian commission on economic cooperation, Trend reports with reference to an official Turkmen source.
At the government meeting the Turkmen leader said that Turkmenistan attaches special importance to building mutually-beneficial cooperation with other countries, including Armenia.
He said the joint intergovernmental commission plays an important role in this.
Armenia is interested in the purchase of Turkmen electricity. This question was raised during the official visit of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to Ashgabat in November 2010, during which agreements were signed in the humanitarian, economic and trade areas.
The two countries have experience of cooperation in the field of electricity supply through Iran. Turkmenistan's power system is connected to the United Energy System of Central Asia and is able to export surplus electricity to other countries - Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Tajikistan and others. The agenda includes access to the markets of the Caucasus region, Kazakhstan and Pakistan.
According to national programme of socio-economic development of Turkmenistan energy production in the country, in 2030 it will reach 25.5 billion kilowatt / hours per year and exports will exceed 11 billion kilowatt / hours per year.
