Ravil Gainutdin re-elected chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia

Ravil Gainutdin was today unanimously re-elected as chairman of the
Council of Muftis of Russia at the Fourth Congress of the Council of
Muftis of Russia, RIA-Novosti reports.

Gainutdin was elected chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia for
the first time in 1996 at the first Majlis by the Muslim leaders of
Russia.

Ravil Gainutdin, summarizing the activities of the Council of Muftis
in the last five years since the last Congress, said that today there
are 28 Spiritual Administrations of Muslims and three universities.

Gainutdin said that in the next five years, "the number of mosques in
Moscow is expected to double at least, that is, in addition to
the completion of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque." Four more mosques in
different districts of Moscow are due to be built.


The agenda of the Congress was the re-election of the chairman and the
progress report for the period from 2007 to 2012. The Council also
discussed its plans for the next five years. The session of the
congress is timed to mark the 25th year of service of the leader of
Muslim Muftis, Ravil Gainutdin, in Moscow.
