According to Central Election Commission of Georgia, nine foreign and
24 local organizations have registered before Monday, August 27 to
observe parliamentary elections on October 1, Georgia-Online reports.
The foreign organizations consist of the International Republican Institute
(IRI), the National Democratic Institute (NDI), the International Union of
Young Democrats (IYDU), the International Foundation for Electoral Systems
(IFES), the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE, the European Student
Democrats, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the OSCE
(ODIHR), "Transparency International - Latvia" and the U.S. Embassy in
the UK.
Among local NGOs are the League of Voters, the Georgian Young Lawyers
Association, Transparency International – Georgia, the Center for
Improving the Electoral Environment, the movement "Save Life", the International
Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED), "Free Choice for
Civil Society", the Human Rights Center "Multinational Georgia" and
"Former Prisoners for Human Rights".
The CEC continues to accept applications from organizations to monitor the
elections.
