Georgian ruling party postpones congress for a week

Congress of the National Movement party has been postponed for a week, and the event planned in 11 cities in Georgia instead of September 1 will be held on September 8, Trend reports.

The postponement of the congress is due to the death of three Georgian special forces soldiers in a special operation on the Dagestan section of the Russian-Georgian border, ruling party spokeswoman Chiora Taktakishvili said.

"These people died for the security of Georgia and the Georgian people. By decision of the party we want to honor those who died and therefore postponed Congress for a week. On behalf of the National Movement we offer our condolences to the bereaved families," Taktakishvili said.
