The Russian Interior Ministry wants to the government to improve control over service and civil guns, Izvestia reports.
Interior Forces have about 500,000 guns registered. Poor control allows guns to be transported from one base to another, making the monitoring of the process difficult.
The ministry proposed formation of a working group of the government to study gun control in Russia. Major-General Sergey Yerygin, chief of arms at the Main Command of the Interior Forces, filed a letter to the Military and Industry Commission of the government with an urge for better control.
He said that up to 2.54 million guns are passed from one base to another every year. Control shooting cannot be realized due to lack of funds. It would take 445,000 person-hours for control shooting of all guns.
Yerygin proposed a life cycle of service guns of 1520 years.
