At today's meeting of the enlarged Security Council of Russia, Russian
President Vladimir Putin devoted his speech to the present state
and prospects of the domestic defense industry, RIA Novosti reports.
Putin noted that the Russian defense industry needs not only technical
modernization, but also modernization of all the economic mechanisms.
Putin stressed the importance of appropriate people occupying high offices
in the defense industry and said that new people will be hired if the
problem with staff inefficiency continues.
Putin also said that the country was ready to use foreign military
technology, but stressed that a situation in which Russian plants would
only assemble imported parts was "unacceptable."
"Foreign partnership is possible," Putin told a meeting of the
Security Council on Friday, saying it was "not shameful" to draw on
foreign experience, RIA-Novosti quotes his words.
He also called for "more effective" government control over arms
procurement, following a string of setbacks.
Russia has earmarked more than 20 trillion rubles ($641 billion) for
arms procurement until 2020.
