At today's National Security Council meeting, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan proposed discussing the question of continuing
diplomatic relations with Hungary in connection with the extradition
of an Azerbaijani officer, Ramil Safarov, sentenced to life imprisonment to Baku.
The president of Armenia said that Yerevan is not going to put up with what has happened.
The Armenian authorities are going to send a letter to the heads of state of the OSCE Minsk Group, which will reflect the position of
Yerevan on the extradition of Ramil Safarov.
"It is necessary to give appropriate instructions to all our
diplomatic structures. I already contacted the leaders of our
traditional parties, and I am confident that the attitude of our
nation should be also heard abroad. The Hungarian authorities need to
understand that they had made a grave mistake," News-Armenia quotes
the head of Armenia as saying.
Earlier, Vestnik Kavkaza wrote about the criminal case against the
Azerbaijani officer, which was initiated after February 19, 2004, when
Ramil Safarov, who studied in Budapest at English language courses,
killed an Armenian, Gurgen Markarian. As was stated at the inquiries,
Safarov killed the Armenian military personnel because he had repeatedly
insulted the people of Azerbaijan, the memory of those killed in the
Karabakh war and the national flag of Azerbaijan.
