The inter-department working group for interethnic relations headed by Russian Vice Premier Dmitry Kozak approved a secret plan for media to prevent interethnic conflicts. Russian TV channels will have more shows about the life and cultures of Russian ethnicities in 2012-2013. TV Center and Mir will broadcast Sabantuy (a national holiday for Tatarstan, Chuvashia and Bashkiria) and Eid-ul-Fitr. Broadcasting will be organized at the Ufa Cathedral Mosque. Christmas service broadcast will be held at the Christ the Saviour Cathedral, Vatican and Minsk. Mertsishor will be broadcasted for Moldova. Nowruz will be broadcasted for Uzbeks on March 21, Izvestia reports.
According to the census of 2010, Russia has 158,000 Jews, but plans to broadcasting for them.
Director of the Mir TV Channel, Yekaterina Abramova, said that the channel focuses on religious and cultural aspects of ethnicities. The channel is popular in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Islamic states.
Sergey Pekhletsky, the producer of the Svoya Igra show (a Russian version of America’s “Jeopardy”) said that the show on NTV will have more questions about ethnicities.
The Guild of Interethnic Journalists will develop ethnic principles for presentations of the topic of interethnic relations in mass media.
17 people will visit Northern Caucasus resorts at expenses of the government. RIA Novosti will give information in more languages. Channel Russia and TNV will broadcast films and series forming a positive image of ethnicities.
