Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says that terrorism is still a threat in Turkey and offered to stop operations if the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) gives up, Trend reports.
The mandate for military operations against PKK expires on October 17. The Turkish government requested the parliament to extend it, most likely by a year.
The Turkish military were authorized to attack PKK bases in a neighbor state in 2007, provoked by numerous terrorist attacks.
The conflict of Turkey and PKK, a party demanding independence of Kurdistan, has been ongoing for over 25 years. The UN and EU recognize PKK as a terrorist organization.
