The US may reconsider forming anti-missile systems in Europe and may scrap the idea of installing them in Poland, Kommersant reports.
The NRC commission studying the missile systems in Europe for about 3 years said that anti-missile defenses would be unable to protect the US and its allies from Iran. The NRC recommended that the SM-3 interceptors planned in Poland be scrapped. It would reduce expenses tenfold and prevent aggravations of relations with Russia.
NRC specialists believe that interception of a missile being launched would be irrational. Operators will have only a few minutes for targeting. Formation of space satellite systems would need over $500 billion for the purpose.
Iranian and Chinese missiles may be intercepted on the eastern coast of the US in Maine or Fort Drum in the north of the State of New York. The initiative will cost at least $45 billion together with the SM-3 Block 2B in Poland.
Walter Slocombe of an expert commission says that the idea of establishing anti-missile systems on US territory would improve relations with Russia.
