The Security Council meeting on Friday has not taken place yet,
spokesman for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said, commenting on
information that the Security Council discussed today the issue of
creating a unified Investigative Committee and adopted a "political
solution" to the appearance of an institution of that kind, RIA Novosti reports.
Referring to the State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein, several media
resources reported today that the Russian Security Council has
supported the creation of a single Investigative Committee.
The idea of combining all of the investigative organs into a single body has
been discussed for several years. At the moment there are the
following investigative bodies: the Investigative Committee of Russia,
the investigative department of the Russian Interior Ministry and the
investigative departments under other law enforcement agencies,
including under the Federal Drug Control Service.
