In the next few days the Iraqi parliament is going to voteon whether to terminate the Turkish military presence in the north of
the country, the Committee for External Relations of the Council of
Representatives announced on Monday, RIA Novosti reports.
Some time ago, the Iraqi government asked members of parliament to
terminate or not to extend the operation of any agreements that allow a
foreign military presence in the country.
Last week, the Turkish parliament voted to extend for another year the
mandate to send Turkish troops to northern Iraq to fight the
militant Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
Since 1995 Turkey has been conducting operations against PKK militants
in northern Iraq.
