Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the Armenian plane with humanitarian aid for Syria was forced to land at the Erzurum Airport on Monday due to violations. No problems were registered during checking of the plane, Erdogan said.
Spokesman of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Tigran Balayan said that the landing was scheduled. Turkish Minister for Transportation Binali Yildirim said that it was a technical landing.
Erdogan commented on detention of the Syrian plane on October 10, saying that the cargo found was of military purposes. Russia insisted that there was no military cargo and radars did not violate the international law.
The cargo was sent to the Syrian Ministry for National Defense, ITAR-TASS reports.
The US does not plan to make any decisions for Syria until Lakhdar Brahimi, special envoy of the UN and LAS, concludes the visit to Iran, spokeswoman of the US State Department Victoria Nuland said.
Nuland abstained from commenting on the initiative to return UN peacekeepers to Syria.
Brahimi will start the visit to Iran in the near future. He urged Iranian authorities to help bring peace to Syria during Eid al-Adha. The special envoy had a meeting in Doha (Qatar) on Monday where he discussed return of about 3,000 UN peacekeepers to Syria with opposition. The peacekeeping group may consist of soldiers from France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Ireland. Their mission will resemble the one in Lebanon where international observers monitor the Israeli-Lebanese border, RIA Novosti reports.
