Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has received a proposal from Tukkey to start trilateral negotiations together with Egypt in order to resolve the Syrian crisis, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, Vzglyad reports.
The group was formed by Egypt. The initial idea was to gather Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, but the latter abstained from the council in Cairo in September.
Erdogan returned to Ankara from Baku after negotiations with Ahmadinejad at the summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization. He proposed different formats for talks with Syria.
One of the formats is to gather Turkey, Egypt and Iran, the second one is Turkey, Russia and Iran and the third format is to bring together Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Turkey forced a Syrian plane with 35 passengers flying from Moscow to Damascus to land in Ankara the previous Wednesday. Syrian Transportation Minister Muhammad Sayid called such actions piracy. Turkey plans to bring more tanks and combat aircraft to the Diyarbakir base near the Syrian border. The Turkish navy in the Mediterranean Sea was in a state of alert on Sunday.
