In London, first broadcast of Iranian opposition television station Raha TV aired for the first time. The main purpose of Raha TV ("Liberation") puts the fight against the "immoral and inhuman" current regime in Iran.
Funded by Iranian businessman Amir Hossein Dzhahanchahi (leader of the opposition movement "Green Wave"), living in Europe, the channel will broadcast via satellite Eutelsat and the internet. At first Raha TV will broadcast only 3.5 hours a day – there will be news for half an hour and cultural programs, including on areas and artists prohibited in Iran, for three hours.
It is interesting to note that, despite the declared opposition, the channel promises to give the floor to the representatives of the current Iranian government.
The editor-in-chief of Raha TV will be former deputy culture minister Ali Asghar Ramezanpur, who fled abroad in 2003. The number of people working there and their personalities are hidden for "security reasons." "Basically, they are journalists who recently left Iran with enough fresh ideas about the current situation in the country," RIA Novosti quotes the words of Dzhahanchahi.
According to the businessman, in establishing the channel he was inspired by "Al Jazeera" and "Al-Arabi", having played a significant role in the outbreak of the "Arab Spring." "We are committed to political, economic and legal changes in the country to ensure a different future for the Iranian people. The channel was extremely timely started, as the opposition is gaining momentum and it is important to continue acting in this direction," Dzhahanhachi said.
The "timeliness" of the activity of the Iranian opposition is apparently related to the upcoming presidential elections in Iran in 2013. As you know, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will not be able to participate in these elections, and therefore, the opposition forces have a chance to become a legitimate ruling power, as has recently happened in Georgia.
