Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh has ordered the republic's parliament and social organizations to react to a recent declaration by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, RIA Novosti reports.
During her visit to Georgia, Clinton urged Russia to remove its military bases from Abkhazia and South Ossetia and supported the territorial unity and sovereignty of Georgia.
Bagapsh emphasized that the Russian forces are not occupying Abkhazia, and that their presence part of an intergovernmental agreement to provide security and stability in the region.
Abkhaz Foreign Minister Maxim Gvindjiya said that a state ruled by a president and parliament who were elected by the people cannot be called ‘occupied’.
