Russia wants Turkey to return the 12 crates that were impounded in Ankara en route to Damascus from Moscow in early October. The crates contained radio components and were unaffected by sanctions, Kommersant reports.
The Syrian pilot of the plane forced to land in Ankara was given no confiscation note. Russia wants the cargo to be returned to the Construction Bureau for Instrumentation.
Russian intelligence officers said that the source reporting about the cargo on board the plane was in Syria.
Togrul Ismail of the Department for International Relations of the University for Economics and Technologies (Ankara) said that Turkey will take no steps to provoke confrontation with Russia. He noted that Turkey would have acted differently if it were a Russian plane. Ismail expressed hope that the problem would be settled in the near future.
